About Me

Hi I’m Jax! My mom taught me how to sew when I was eight years old. We'd go to a fabric store and choose a pattern (usually a costume), and then I'd rummage through the fabric like it was a candy store.

Learning to follow a pattern really tested my patience at such a young age. Sometimes I'd get so frustrated I'd call the phone number on the back of the sewing packet and ask for help.

Now that I think about it - who were those pattern wizards behind the phone lines?

But that was just the start. In middle school, I would collect friends’ old jeans and upcycle them into denim bags - now I wish I kept them, 90s are back, baby! I'd also make Barbie clothes for my sister’s dolls, and then in high school, I started making my own dresses.

For years I took a break from sewing – living in NY was busy with very little to no room for storing a sewing machine and supplies.

Then, in my mid-twenties, I decided I wanted to recover a lamp in one of the worst apartments I ever lived in. I thought to myself, "Recovering this lamp will literally spark light." I borrowed my sister’s sewing machine, and the rest is history.
